The traditional Thai New Year, acknowledge as the "Water Festival" occur on 12-14 April of every year. It's the occasion for merriment all over the country for Thai community society and religion. Thais always pour scented water onto the hands of the elders and bath rite for Budha images as the belief to purify away of bad luck and receiving wish and bless from the elders. The water festival also perform to experience the water-throwing activities and some other activities e.g parades and Miss Songkran beauty contest. |

An ancient Brahman ritual, conducted at Sanam Luang, in which farmers believe is able to forecast the abundance of the next rice crop. The event is a result of a series of ceremonies that are conducted by Phraya Raek Na, portrayed by a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives who wears colourful traditional costumes. This ceremony was re-introduced in 1960 by H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and is considered the official commencement of the rice-growing season. |

The event is observed citywide and nationwide. In the evening, people gather at the waterside to float krathong, lotus-shaped vessels lovely decorated with flowers and lit candles, as a thanksgiving and worship to the Goddess of Water. There are also fun fairs, concerts, beauty contests and other entertainment activities. |
